VIEW WORKS

Angelos Merges (b. 1989 in Chios, Greece) lives and works in Zürich, Switzerland. He received an Integrated Masters in Painting from Athens School of Fine Arts in 2020, and a Masters in Fine Art from Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in 2023.

Angelos Merges employs the concept of abstract narrative, allowing expression without clear explanation. Within his canvases, the interplay of space often assumes a significant role, sometimes surpassing the prominence of the depicted figures. Similar to the way silence or the absence of music can create harmony in music, Angelos' paintings feature human figures devoid of clear identities, either forming groups or sitting alone, seemingly in anticipation of an unknown catalyst. Through this approach, the artist invites the viewers to derive their own personal interpretations when engaging with his artwork.
